The State Wrestling Tournament continues today at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Pella Wrestler A-J Arrendell had an up and down day at the state tournament yesterday but it ended on a positive note. After winning his first round match on Wednesday Arrendell lost his match against David Solis of Iowa City West by a pin. Arrendell then moved to the consolation round and defeated Aidan Brock of Cedar Falls by an 11/eight decision. He will next wrestle Jeremy Brand of Indianola. That match will take place later today. Arrendell can still place as high as third if he keeps winning. The day started with class two-A and the three P-C-M wrestlers took the mat. 103 pounder Dalton Kingery won his first round match over Greg Vance of Dubuque Walhert by pin. He will take on Alex Spooner of Forest City in today’s quarterfinals. 112 pounder Brandon Teeple fell to Tanner Schmidt of Charles City but came back to defeat Josh Frush of Union in the first round consolation. 125 pounder Nick Vanderpool lost to Jake Keller of Columbus Junction by a technical fall and then was eliminated from competition by South Tama’s Tyler Waltz in the consolation bracket. The one-A wrestlers took the mat last night as Pleasantville’s David Ginger is on to the semi-finals at 130 after defeating Sean McNitt of St. Albert ten-to-five. Tasker Phillips state meet ended when he lost to Kendall Witt of Tri-Center in the consolation roundand 189 pounder Cass Lester stayed alive for a medal with a win over Northwest Websters Landon Rasch five-to-four in the consolation round.
