Curious Savage performances continue 
The Knoxville Area Community Theatres production of The Curious Savage was held yesterday and is being performed tonight at 7 p.m. and again April 24th and 25th at 7 p.m. at Knoxville Middle School. Doors for the humorous showwhich explores themes of greed and finding the true appreciation for moneyopen at 6:30. Tickets are available at Radio Shack in Knoxville for $7 each and are $8 at the door.

Pella Christian High School football and soccer players gathered Friday morning to roll out the first length of turf for the new football field. Athletic Director Verlan Nikkel says the goal is to have the field, track, grandstands and press box all ready for the fall. Nikkel says its great for students to finally have a home field. 

$1.2 million awarded for Tracy facility construction 
The unincorporated Marion County town of Tracy comes one step closer to the construction of a wastewater treatment facility. Sources tell KNIA/KRLS News Mahaska Rural Water Systems is receiving $1.2 million in loan and grant funds to assist in constructing a network of sewer service lines and a lift station, which would serve 112 homes by eliminating odor and sewage in area yards and ditches. A USDA representative will be at the Marion County Courthouse at 10 a.m. Wednesday to present Mahaska Rural Water Systems with the funds. In addition to the $1.2 million from the USDA, the state has also awarded $255,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds for the project. 

Trial set for Pella resident charged with sexual assault
A trial date is set for a Pella man charged with third-degree sexual assault. According to Marion County Courthouse documents, a pre-trial conference for 46year-old Andre M. Staples is scheduled for May 29 with the trial set to start June 30. An arraignment hearing was held Friday. The charge stems from an alleged incident in October of 2008. Sexual assault in the third-degree is a Class C felony and if convicted Staples could face up to 10 years in prison. 

Student selected for Celebration Iowa
A Knoxville high school student will be playing drums with a select state touring ensemble for the second year in a row. Robert Woodle tells KNIA/KRLS News that hes excited to be playing percussion again with the Celebration Iowa Singers and Jazz Band in more that 30 shows across the state this summer. 

Willful injury investigation in Pella 
Authorities are investigating a willful injury case after a teenage male reported being assaulted by two unknown individuals Wednesday evening. According to the Pella Police Department, the incident occurred near East 13th Street and East Independence at approximately 10:25 p.m. Wednesday. Lieutenant John Van Haaften says this seems to be an isolated incident. 

Knoxville Chamber awards ceremony to be held 
The Knoxville Chamber of Commerce is having its annual awards ceremony April 25th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Knoxville Raceway. The event takes place just before the first night of races at the Knoxville Raceway. Roxanne Johnson is executive director of the Knoxville Growth Alliance. She says one of the goals of the event is to help highlight the contribution the racetrack makes to the area.

Central College alum in Boston Marathon 
A Central College alumnus is running the Boston Marathon next week. According to Central, Morgan Parker of Pella graduated in 2000 and lettered in both track and cross-country. Parker will likely join more than 20,000 fellow athletes in the worlds oldest annual marathon. The 113th annual Boston Marathon is April 20. 

Knoxville prom tonight 
Knoxville High School is holding its 2009 prom tonight from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Knoxville High School with a Mardi Gras Mambo theme. Kelly Garrington, head junior class prom sponsor, says residents can view a prom open house from 5 to 6 p.m. with the main student walk-in from 7 to 8 p.m. 

Extra produce can go to food shelf 
As the growing season approaches, gardeners with extra produce are welcome to donate to the Pella Food Shelf. Director JoNes Van Hecke says last year they were very fortunate to receive produce courtesy of a Pella Church along with donations from a handful of individuals.
