A recent petition by an Iowa group to ban bicycles on county roads has – not surprisingly – been met with opposition by cycling enthusiasts. Marty Doane is the owner of Iowa Bike and Fitness in Pella. He tells KNIA/KRLS News a ban limiting where cyclists can ride would be counterproductive to the broad promotion of getting out and being physically active. Don Vaskey, treasurer of the Knoxville Bike Club, says it’s important that cyclists be able to continue to ride on county highways and paved roads; for both training and recreational purposes. Proponents of the ban are hoping for the topic to be addressed during the 2010 Legislative session.
