Central College recently received a nearly $26,000 rebate check from an Alliant Energy subsidiary company for its proactive efforts in reducing the college’s energy usage. Interstate Power and Light Company awarded Central the $25,789 rebate for energy efficient construction in the new Education and Psychology building, which includes energy-efficient insulation, windows and a heat recovery system. The result is a gas usage reduction of 19,746 therms, which will avoid more than 98.7 metric tons of carbon dioxide. This is equivalent to removing the CO2 emissions from 11,207 gallons of gasoline consumed or 230 barrels of oil consumed.

In addition to improving its environmental performance, Central College will realize an estimated savings on its annual energy bill of more than $13,000 and earned over $25,000 in energy efficiency rebate through Alliant’s energy incentive program.
