The number of unemployed workers in Marion County has decreased since the previous month; bucking a state trend that saw unemployment rise to the highest level since the fall of 1986. According to data released last week by Iowa Workforce Development, Marion County’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.7 percent in July; down from 6.1 percent in June of this year. The statewide unemployment rate for July, meanwhile, was at 6.5 percent.
