The number of unemployed workers in Marion County has decreased since the previous month; bucking a state trend that saw unemployment rise to the highest level since the fall of 1986. According to data released Tuesday by Iowa Workforce Development, Marion County’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.7 percent in July; down from 6.1 percent in June of this year. The statewide unemployment rate for July, meanwhile, was at 6.5 percent. In terms of actual workers, there were 980 unemployed in Marion County last month; 80 less than the previous month.
