Last fall at this time, Cheyenne “Shane” Cochran was hitting the weightroom and the practice field as a member of the Central College football team. Now the 21-year-old is preparing to be deployed to Iraq as a member of the 132nd Fighter Wing of Des Moines. Central Head Coach Jeff McMartin says Cochran knew before spring practice last year that he would not return in the fall because of his military service commitment, but went through practices anyway. McMartin describes Cochran as a dedicated worker who was growing as a leader on the team, and says Shane plans to return to Central after serving his tour overseas.
