County Unemployment Jump Attributed to Timing

Marion County’s unemployment rate jumped to a staggering 9.6 percent in the month of August, but the figure may not be as bad as it appears. Kerry Koonce with Iowa Workforce Development tells KNIA/KRLS News that the recording of unemployment data likely came during temporary shutdowns or rolling layoffs at the county’s major manufacturers and says information gathered in September should generate a lower unemployment figures.
