The City of Pella hosts its annual “Beggars’ Night” Saturday night; giving hundreds of candy hunters a chance to go door-to-door dressed in their Halloween best in search of treats. Lieutenant David Beukelman of the Pella Police Department says the department will take steps to make themselves visible and available.
“All of our officers and myself will be on patrol; and we have reserves coming in as well to make a good presence felt,” says Lieutenant Beukelman. “If people feel suspicious about anything, they can certainly approach us and talk to us about anything that concerns them.”
Beukelman adds that a proper ratio of responsible adults to children, only approaching well-lit porches, and carrying flashlights are all additional ways that those who are out can remain safe. “Beggars’ Night” in Pella runs from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday night.
