Another big day on the ground for running back David Zachary helped Central College bury another Iowa Conference opponent, as the Dutch blasted Simpson College 56-24 Saturday. Zachary rolled up 155 yards and four touchdowns on just 15 carries as No. 8 Central put up back-to-back 50-point games for the first time since 1997. Last week they shut out Cornell College 55-0.

Saturday’s game saw the Dutch offense make visits to the end zone early and often, as they raced out to a 21-3 lead in the first quarter. Central’s lead was as large as 49-10 at one point in the third quarter.

On offense, Central gained 409 yards of total offense; 289 of which came on the ground. Zachary’s 155-yard performance gave him his fifth 100-yard rushing game this season, and improved his average to 120.5 yards per contest. Quarterback Nate Snead added 56 yards and a touchdown, while freshman running back Ross Doehrmann added two more scores and tallied 41 yards.

Central’s passing duo of Snead and Zack Bandow combined for a 9-of-15 afternoon for 120 yards and a touchdown reception by sophomore Jeremy Sneed. Surprisingly enough, though, Simpson actually outgained the Dutch in total offense by racking up 466 yards, but turned the football over four times in the contest.

Defensive backs Jake Peterson and Ryan Schmidt lead the Central defense in tackles with eight, while fellow D-back Cody Baethke tallied seven.

The victory improves the Central football team to 6-0 this season, and also guarantees the Dutch its 48th winning season since 1960. The team is home again next Saturday and will look to avenge another loss from last season as Luther College comes to Pella. The Norse are 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the Iowa Conference after a 19-10 victory over Cornell College Saturday.
