The number of Pella elementary students absent due to the flu seems to have crested already, but the bug’s not going away just yet. Brian Miller, Principal at Jefferson Intermediate School says that nearly one hundred students were out sick on Tuesday, but that number has slightly decreased in the past two days to around fifteen percent of the students.

Absenteeism at Madison and Lincoln Elementary schools is slightly lower. Madison Principal Donna Hancock says between 35 and 50 students have missed school on a given day this week, while Rich Schulte, Lincoln Elementary Principal, tells KNIA/KRLS News that around 12-15 students, or approximately five percent of the study body, have been out sick with cold or flu symptoms.
