229 volunteers comprised of 31 churches and 14 different communities, fanned out across Knoxville last Saturday, as part of a “service surge” to spruce up the community. That’s according to Joel Bennett, co-founder of A Call To Serve, or ACTS ministries, which organized the surge, along with a city planning committee. He says it was the biggest “surge” event in ACTS’ history, with 19 projects completed including building a wheelchair ramp, landscaping a front yard, painting a kitchen, and painting a youth center basement, among many others.
