180 to 200 soldiers from the Iowa National Guard company based in Knoxville and Oskaloosa are scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan next year. Guard spokesman Major Michael Wunn says that the soldiers from the 3654th Maintenance Co. were notified of the mobilization, which would begin in fall 2010 to continue ongoing operations and training of the Afghan National Security Forces. Earlier this week the Department of Defense announced a similar state-wide deployment for the Iowa-based 2nd Brigade of the 34th Infantry Division.
