Motorists traveling on the western portion of Washington Street in Pella Thursday may have noticed a change in the flow of traffic. A four-way traffic signal now controls the intersection of Washington and West 3rd Street, which had previously been controlled by a four-way stop sign.

The new signal allows for a continuous flow of east and westbound traffic on Washington unless traffic is present on West 3rd. The signal should alleviate some of the congestion that was caused by every one of the estimated 11,000 cars a day on Washington Street having to stop at the intersection.
