The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rock Island, Illinois, recently awarded over $1 million in contracts for repair work at Lake Red Rock. A Tennessee company was awarded a bid worth $722,850 for sewer work and repairs at the Howell Lift Station and North Tailwater area of the Lake. Work will include the construction of a new submersible pump station, along with the construction of a new prefabricated grinder pump and over 4,000 feet of a 3-inch PVC forcemain to convey wastewater from the new North Tailwater pump station to the Howell Lift Station.

$347,594 will go to a Minneapolis contractor for concrete removal and reconstruction in the North and South Tailwater areas. The work will also include the construction of concrete cutoff walls and riprap and the stabilization of several additional concrete structures. The work is to repair damage caused by high waters in the summer of 2008 and is scheduled to be completed in 2010.
