Pella Christian beat Pleasantville last night 3-0 in the opening round of the Class 2A Regional volleyball tournament ending the Trojans season while Pella Christian advances to the quarterfinals next Tuesday. The Eagles wasted no time winning game one 25-5 then added wins of 25-12 and 25-14 to earn the sweep. Pella Christian coach John Evenhouse said he liked the intensity that his team brought to the court. At one point in game one the Eagles ran off 11 straight points and Pleasantville just had no answer. Pleasantville did show improvements in games two and three led by Liz Hoyt and Konner Gordon but the Eagles answered every time. Hannah Vermeer and Jenna Horstman each had 9 kills to lead Pella Christian, while Fopma added 7 kills and 3 blocks. Bekkah Posthuma had 15 assists while Jackie Veenstra and Sara Faber each added 5 assists. Pella Christian improved to 20-14 and will host Eddyville Blakesburg in the quarterfinals next Tuesday after the Rockets downed Albia in five games last night.
