Soggy conditions have slowed down combines in the fields recently, as farmers try to get their soybeans harvested before the snow falls again. Marion County ISU Extension Education Director Dale Miller says most of the corn is on the fields, as it can withstand colder temperatures and frost better than low-to-the-ground soybeans, with late beans especially susceptible to sudden drops in temperature. However, Miller says last week the county experienced a late frost, but not a killing freeze, adding he hopes for dryer weather and the soil temperature to remain above average – both conditions that will help get the crops harvested safely.
