Work to repair the visitor information kiosk on the square in Pella’s Central Park began on Monday. The small windmill has remained relatively unchanged since it was built in 1973, and Pella Parks and Recreation Foreman Loren Van Gorp tells KNIA/KRLS News that much of the wood had rotted so bad that the structure was barely holding together.

Among the exterior pieces being replaced will be the railing around the top part, the window sills and the siding. Pella resident Clarence Hettinga and a small crew have been awarded the contract for the project. Van Gorp says the repair work will be a fairly large undertaking but hopes workers can get a good start on the project before winter sets in.
