Guard Miguel Ley poured in a career-high 28 points as the Central College men’s basketball team routed Monmouth College 104-61 Saturday. Central hit a sizzling 58.7 percent from the floor, including eight-of-14 from 3-point range. The Dutch knocked down 22-of-24 from the free throw line and held a commanding 48-21 rebounding advantage while committing 15 turnovers. Loren Liming had 13 points while center Zach Cooper and forward James Chapline each scored 12. Central is 2-1 and will return home Wednesday for an 8 p.m. game with Faith Baptist at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.
7th ranked DePauw took advantage of Central College’s lack of size and rolled to an 86-61 victory in the third-place game of the Titan Tip-Off Classic at Illinois Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon. DePauw outrebounded Central 51-33 and did much of its scoring inside. The Dutch are without injured 6-foot-2 center Andrea Clark who is out with an injury and her presence has definitely been missed in their first three games . Jordan Waddell came off the bench to score a team-high 11 points while guard Sarah Paulson had 10 and guard Kelsey Schuring, a sophomore from Pella, had nine points. Central is 0-3 and makes its home debut tomorrow at 6 p.m. against Grinnell College.
