Central College senior linebacker Zach Van Arkel has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District College Division Football Team. The senior physics major carries a 3.87 grade point average and was a second team selection.

Van Arkel has also been a member of the academic All-Iowa Conference team in the past two years. This season he’s been the second-leading tackler for the Dutch with 45, including 26 unassisted stops. Van Arkel also has made three tackles for a loss with one interception and one forced fumble.

Central is 9-0 and ranked No. 6 by D3football.com. Up next for the Dutch is a chance to clinch the Iowa Conference title outright against Wartburg in Waverly on Saturday.
