The Knoxville City Council is looking into ways to change city code so minors are allowed in a local micro-brewery. Megan McKay Ziller and Dan McKay, two owners of Peace Tree Brewing Company, told the council last night that their establishment is different from a typical “bar” because it makes 95% of its businesses selling craft beers to restaurants and other establishments. Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada expressed concern about people trying to drink underage, but McKay Ziller said the atmosphere is inviting for families to congregate and educate their children about responsible drinking. The city is looking at possibly allowing minors into licensed establishments which also have a Native brewers license or Brewer’s Notice from the federal government.
