The remaining 135 patients getting care at the Knoxville VA Campus are set to be transferred to a community living center in Des Moines the week of December 14. That deadline, and the future of the campus, was discussed at the Knoxville VA Taskforce meeting Tuesday. Taskforce head and Knoxville mayor Harv Sprafka says that local and regional leaders in education and industry are meeting Wednesday, December 2nd, brainstorming ways to use the campus and potential workforce development or vocational skills training which could be done there. A representative from international Realty Group, or IRG, which Sprafka says has experience in Iowa and across the country in finding interested parties for large properties, such as the old Maytag property in Newton, will also be present at the meeting.
