Health Officials earlier this week confirmed the first H1N1-related death in Marion County, and the sixth H1N1 death statewide. Public Health Director Kim Dorn tells KNIA/KRLS News the Marion County resident had significant underlying health conditions that made them more susceptible to complications from the flu. Dorn says flu-related deaths are tragic, but expected: around 1,000 Iowans die from flu complications every year, and the H1N1 death rate has been less than the traditional flu this year. Dorn says the best thing all residents can do is continue to wash their hands, cover their cough, and stay home when sick.
