After last weekend, Pella High School’s fall sports programs have already claimed one state title, and the Little Dutch aren’t done playing just yet. Pella cross country Head Coach Doug Cutler’s boys team claimed the Class 3-A team title on Saturday and the girls squad scored a great fifth-place finish, but Cutler says all of the athletic programs at the school should be proud of their accomplishments.

“It’s been an outstanding fall. I want to take the time to congratulate Coach [Jay] McKinstrey and the football team in how well they’ve played; and Coach [Bob] Fessler and the volleyball team are still playing and they’re just doing a fantastic job,” said Cutler. “You know, I admire those coaches as much for what they do with their athletes’ character and mental preparation and teaching these young people values and things like that as much as their performance on the field.”

The Little Dutch football team plays tonight in the State Quarterfinals, and the volleyball team has moved on to state as well. Cutler, who has family ties to the Pella Christian sports program as well, also congratulated the Eagles’ football, cross country, and volleyball teams on fantastic fall sports seasons. All of those programs also qualified teams or individuals for the postseason, with the Lady Eagles volleyball still alive in the State Volleyball Tournament as well.
