Central College’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE) and College-Community Band will perform together Sunday for the college’s final Sunday Concert Series of the fall semester. Central College freshman Kevin Templeton says the ensemble will perform a trio of songs by composer Percy Aldridge Grainger.

“The Symphonic Wind Ensemble is playing three pieces of his [Grainger]. ‘Lincolnshire Posey’ – which is a six-movement piece – Molly on the Shore’, and ‘Irish Tune from County Derry.’ He really loved the wind ensemble, and so he wrote some really interesting music.”

“Irish Tune from County Derry” will be conducted by senior Michelle Dickinson, who is also holding her senior recital at 4:00 p.m. Saturday in the Cox-Snow Recital Hall. Sunday’s concert will also include an arrangement featuring works of famous Hollywood soundtrack composer John Williams. The concert will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon in Douwstra Auditorium. Dickinson’s senior recital on Saturday and the Sunday Concert Series performance are both free and open to the public.
