The Pella Christian boys will head back to the gym this week for a full week of practice and plan to make the most of it before returning to Little Hawkeye Conference play next week. Coach Larry Hessing says there’s several areas he’d like to see improvements in as they head into the post holiday portion of their schedule, but one thing they plan to work on is finding ways to free up leading scorer Kyle Nikkel and get him even more involved in the offense. Nikkel is Pella Christian’s leading scorer averaging 12 points and just over 10 rebounds per game, however in the loss to Pella in their final game before the break Nikkel was held to just six points and Hessing says that hurt them alot. Nikkel has connected on 67 perent of his shots from the floor this season sinking 40 of 60. Hessing says that’s an amazing shooting percentage and if they can figure out ways to get him more touches, that will result in more points and free up other players as well. The Eagles are 6-1 overall. They have a big game right out of the break January 5th when they host Grinnell. Both teams are 4-1 and tied for second in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
