Sustainability and environmentalism is a big part of the mission of Central College, and incoming president Dr. Mark Putnam looks to continue that direction when he assumes leadership of the college. In a recent interview with KNIA/KRLS News, Putnam says the movement to emphasize sustainability will continue at Central College and aligns with his personal practices as well.
“From my standpoint, when you look at a campus community, there’s even a greater opportunity and obligation to build environmental sustainability into the way we live,” said Putnam. “Students today are looking for ways in which they can impact the world most profoundly, and I think this is a critically important area. Central’s commitment to global sustainability was a huge attraction for us because we very much care about the environment as a family, as a personal matter, and also as a commitment from leadership.”
Putnam will succeed current President, Dr. David Roe, in July of 2010.
