Knoxville Woman Dies in Accident East of Knoxville; FD Asst. Chief Injured

A 64 year-old woman involved in a two car crash Thursday afternoon has passed away. Janice Ilene Comstock of Knoxville was driving a 2001 Saturn when she collided with a 2005 Chevrolet truck driven by 51 year-old Kevin K Rodgers, also of Knoxville. The accident happened one half mile west of G44 on Old Highway 92/T15 at 12:46 Thursday afternoon. Rodgers was transported via Lifeflight of Des Moines to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, where he was treated and released. Another unidentified passenger in Rodgers’s truck was transported to Knoxville Hospital and Clinic where they were treated and released.

According to the Iowa State Patrol Comstock was driving west bound on Old Highway 92/T15 when she lost control and entered the west bound lane, striking the front of Rodgers’s truck. Comstock’s vehicle came to rest on the south ditch while Rodger’s truck came to rest in the east bound lane. Rodgers is the Assistant Chief for the Knoxville Fire Department. Also responding to the accident were the Marion County Sheriff’s office, The Knoxville Police Department, Knoxville Fire and Rescue, and Iowa State Patrol. The accident is still under investigation.
