Despite scoring nearly fifty points on Tuesday night, the Pella girls basketball team did not have a single player in double figures for points, which is a testament to the depth of the Lady Dutch. That depth was made all the more obvious by the strong play of post players Mackenzie Anthony, Kelsey Fynaardt and Taylor Veenstra, who came off of the bench to make significant contributions. Pella Head Coach Jerod Garland says the progress made from last season has been impressive.

“We’ve been really pleased with those girls, especially considering last year they really had no varsity action,” said Garland. “We saw them quite a bit at the JV level, and this summer at Creighton we started to see some glimpses of maybe what they could bring to the table for us, and I’ve just been really happy.”

Anthony, Fynaardt and Veenstra combined for 17 points and double-digit rebounds in Tuesday’s 47-26 win over Newton. Pella hosts Oskaloosa tomorrow night.
