It’s the holidays, and that means more scams trying to get residents’ money. That’s according to Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada. He tells KNIA/KRLS News that scammers posing as charitable organizations could call and e-mail residents asking for donations. Losada recommends residents donate directly to nationally recognized organizations such as the Red Cross, rather than through a phone solicitation. Losada says in some cases as little as 10% of the amount donated actually goes to the charity, with the rest lining the solicitors’ pockets.
