In a much lower scoring game than most would have anticipated the Pella Christian boys won at PCM last night 39-34. The Mustangs came out on fire hitting 6-11 shots in the opening quarter and built a 14-5 lead. Pella Christian fired back outscoring PCM 13-2 in the second quarter to pull within 18-16 at halftime Pella Christian held a three point lead late in the game and PCM had chances but couldn’t hit the shot they needed, then Kyle Nikkel hit two free throws to ice the win for Pella Christian. After blazing the nets in the first quarter, PCM shot just 2-18 in the second and third quarters combined. Pella Christian also battled through early foul trouble and had players switching roles and stepping up at key times in the game. Pella Christian coach Larry Hessing described the game good defense and ragged offense. Kyle Nikkel led Pella Christian with 12 points and 10 rebounds, Curtis Rozenboom added 8 and Sam Twedt scored six. PCM was led by Scott Bruxvoort with 11 points while Rand Hazelton added eight points. PCM fell to 1-1 on the season while Pella Christian improved to 2-0. Pella Christian is off tonight and will play at Ballard Mondaywhile PCM hosts Nevada tonight in a girl/boy doubleheader.
