The Pella Christian girls and boys return to action tonight for a LHC doubleheader at rival Oskaloosa. The Eagle girls are coming off a loss to the defending Class 3A champion Ballard Monday night but fought hard and kept the game close until the end. Coach Kevin Van Maanen says he was very pleased with their effort in that game and hopes to see that type of play from them more often. Van Maanen says Oskaloosa is young this year and struggling to win games, but he says they always step up their game when Pella Christian comes into their gym. The Eagle girls are 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the LHC.

Both boys teams had to replace key players from last years teams but are looking good early. Pella Christian is 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the LHC. They’ve gotten some big road wins at PCM and at Ballard, a top 10 rated team in Class 3A, while Osky started the season with a big loss to Norwalk but bounced back taking Pella into overtime at Pella before falling. Pella Christian coach Larry Hessing says as usual it should be an intense, physical rivalry type of game. Hessing noted he’s a little concerned with their lack of practice time this week . Due to the weather they have not practiced since their game Monday night. He says that could effect the start of the game a bit but says it wont take long for the guys to settle in and play. The girls game tips off at 6:15pm followed by the boys. You can hear both games with Jamie Brockman and Wynne Veenstra live on 92.1 FM KRLS starting at 6pm. The broadcast will also be streamed live on kniakrls.com
