After allowing Oskaloosa to score the opening basket, the Pella girls basketball team went on a 16-0 run, and the points just piled on from there as the Lady Dutch dominated the Indians in a 69-24 win last night. Leading the charge for Pella was a trio of players who actually came off the bench to total 33 points in the win. Head Coach Jerod Garland says the quality of his reserves has been a key asset.

“That’s definitely a huge strength, and that’s something we thought would be a strength for us. Three games into the season we’re really, really pleased,” said Garland. “The girls come in, and there’s not really a drop off at all. We have a lot of size that can come in, so our depth is huge.”

Mackenzie Anthony led the Lady Dutch in scoring with 13 – joined by significant scoring contributions from Taylor Veenstra (9) and Kelsey Fynaardt (11) – while Jordyn Vande Lune added ten points and came two rebounds away from a double-double. The win improves the Pella girls to 2-1 on the season, with a non-conference home game against Mount Pleasant on the schedule for today.
