The Pella girls kept their undefeated Little Hawkeye Conference record intact with a 55-42 win at cross-town rival Pella Christian last night. The game was close through much of the first quarter before Pella was able to make a small run and take a 19-10 lead after one quarter. Pella Christian kept the game within reach, but Pella led 28-20 at halftime.

The second half saw Pella Christian make several runs and cut the Pella lead down to six a couple different times, but that was all the closer they could get, as Pella answered every time on the offensive end. Pella coach Jerod Garland said they knew Pella Christian would give them a battle and it seemed as if they had to fight for every point.

Pella Christian threw every defense in the book at Pella, which worked at times, but the experience of Pella paid off in the end. Pella Christian coach Kevin Van Maanen said they just didn’t pressure Pella enough and the Lady Dutch took advantage.

Pella was led by Mackenzie Vander Molen and Courtney Kelderman each with 13 points while Pella Christian was led by Jasmin Schelhaas with 9 points; and Bekah Posthuma, Courtney Van Kooten and Jackie Veenstra each had 7. Pella Christian falls to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, while Pella improved to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the LHC and heads into the holiday break tied for the conference lead with Knoxville.
