Three seniors at Pella High School are among 13 high school and college students across the state that were nominated by Congressman Leonard Boswell to U.S. Service Academies Thursday. Bret Bogaard – son of Randy and Hazel Bogaard – and Brandon Zwank – son of Ronald and Michelle Zwank – were each nominated to the U.S. Air Force and Naval Academies. Zwank was also nominated to the U.S. Military Academy, along with classmate Brent Smith. Brent is the son of Rick and Tammy Smith.

As a Member of Congress, Boswell nominates individuals from the 3rd Congressional District to the Academies based on scholarship, leadership and character qualities, among other attributes. Receiving a congressional nomination is required to be considered for admission to one of the nation’s prestigious military academies. The academies will announce their candidate selections in the spring of 2010.
