With winter weather moving to the forefront of many peoples’ minds, Pella Police Lieutenant John VanHaaften reminds area residents to consider the necessity of travel in inclement weather.

“It’s that time of year when we’re all thinking of family and friends, and there’s parties and get-togethers – which is a wonderful thing – but we also need to be thinking about the necessity of travel in bad weather and preparedness for snow, sleet, or whatever comes along,” says VanHaaften. “We want to be there for our families too after that storm, so we want to be prepared and travel safely.”

Lieutenant VanHaaften urges those who plan on traveling to think ahead and allow plenty of time to make it to your destination. A full tank of gas, fully charged cell phone and some emergency supplies such as blankets and a flashlight are other ways VanHaaften says those traveling can make sure they’re ready to make their trip.
