As 2009 draws to a close, the Pella Fire Department has taken the necessary steps to ensure they are again ready to serve the public in 2010. Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkom says the department’s annual inspection was conducted last month by a company they contract to check the trucks, pumps and equipment every year. The Pella Fire Department also goes through a pump certification process every two years that makes sure the truck’s pumps can run at full capacity for a set period of time.

Van Gorkom adds that in addition to annual checks, members of the all-volunteer department also take turns checking and maintaining all of the Pella Fire Department’s equipment once each week. This includes running all of the trucks and small engine equipment, along with checking the emergency lights and pumps on each of the department’s trucks.
