The Knoxville Fire Department, the Knoxville Rural Fire Department, the Pella Fire Department, and the Knoxville Police Department responded to a fire in downtown Knoxville at approximately midnight Saturday night. The location of the fire was at 106 East Robinson. Officials at the scene relate that smoke and flames were visible coming out of the two story apartment building and former antique shop when they arrived on scene, and that the flames were brought under control quickly. Three individuals were evacuated from the building, and the American Red Cross provided assistance in providing one shelter. Crews also fought -4 degree temperatures and a -16 wind chill, remaining on scene for approximately two hours. Marion County records show that the deed to the building is held by Jerry Saylor. The cause of the fire has not been released, and there were no injuries. Knoxville Fire Chief Mike Roberts says that he has asked for an investigation of the fire by the state Fire Marshall. This location is the site of a fire that occurred almost exactly 1 year ago, January 8, 2009. KNIA KRLS will provide more information as soon as it becomes official.
