The Iowa Legislature will convene a week from Monday, and as lawmakers look toward the upcoming session, there is little doubt that balancing the state’s budget will be one of the most challenging issues facing legislators. Republican State Representative Jim Van Engelenhoven of Pella says his greatest concern is whether cuts in the budget are made in Des Moines, or if they are passed down to the county level. Van Engelenhoven represents District 71 in the Iowa House, which includes the majority of Marion County and the Monroe area.
