The Marion County Board of Supervisors met in special session Wednesday morning. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the initial budgeting process for the 2010-2011 fiscal year. The budget discussed included requests from all county departments. The General Fund, which helps pay salaries for county employees and pays for the day-to-day costs of department operation is at a $77,000 deficit, the lowest in recent history. County Auditor Jake Grandia says that if the board reduces budget requests by just 1% for all departments they could make up $71,000 of the deficit. The board is looking into options for this and other funds and will take action as necessary in the future.
