The Pella Christian girls improved their stature in the Little Hawkeye Conference with a 52-41 home win over Grinnell last night. Eagles’ Head Coach Kevin Van Maanen said both teams showed some signs of being off for the long break, but said the win was a great way to start action in 2010.

Pella Christian led by just one point at halftime, but started the 3rd quarter strong, jumping out to an 11-point lead and holding onto the lead for the remainder of the game. Jasmin Schelhaas led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points, including a 5-for-7 performance at the free throw line.

Christina Nolte also registered ten points for Pella Christian, while Jackie Veenstra led the team with 8 rebounds. Pella Christian is 5-5 and 4-2 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, going into Friday’s game against Norwalk.
