Hundreds of rural Pella residents were without power this afternoon because of the recent ice storm. Jean Van Wyk, Communications Coordinator with Pella Cooperative Electric tells KNIA/KRLS News that at one point, over 900 customers had no electricity, most of which live within 10 miles of Pella.

Power was later restored to all but 88 of those customers, but Van Wyk adds that those still in the dark may still be without service for 24 hours or longer. She also says there is a possibility that the previously repaired transmission could go down again. The ice storm has accounted for at least 25 broken power poles and several miles of downed power lines. Van Wyk says that repair crews had been out until after midnight last night, and then back out early this morning.

Pella Cooperative Electric has been overwhelmed with phone calls and is asking residents to be please patient and listen to KNIA/KRLS for updates or visit www.pella-cea.org if internet access is available. Van Wyk adds that those with information on specific damage or downed lines can call (641) 628-1040 or (800) 619-1040 to report the outage.
