Pella Youngster Creates Fundraiser for Haiti

A kindergartner in Pella has come up with a “constructive” way to raise money for children in Haiti who survived this month’s deadly earthquake. With assistance from his mother, Titus Hopkins, a kindergartner at Madison Elementary came up with a fundraiser that will have participants building creations out of Legos®. Participants between the ages of kindergarten through fifth grade will be a $5 entry fee per creation, and sixth through twelfth grade students will pay a $10 entry fee.

Whatever creation participants build will then be entered into a contest for prizes donated by local businesses. All proceeds will go to Many Hands for Haiti. Hopkins decided he wanted to do a fundraiser after learning that as little as twenty-five cents could provide a meal for kids in Haiti. Registration and rule information is available at Marion County Bank or the Third Reformed Church in Pella. The public will be invited to vote on the Lego® creations the week of March 1st through the 5th at Marion County Bank. Winners will be announced on March 10th.
