Hundreds of rural Pella residents were without power Thursday afternoon because of the recent ice storm. Jean Van Wyk, Communications Coordinator with Pella Cooperative Electric tells KNIA/KRLS News that at one point, over 900 customers had no electricity, most of which live within 10 miles of Pella.

Hard work by repair crews Thursday evening has reduced that number now to 110, with only 6 Pella Cooperative Electric customers in Marion County still without service. Van Wyk says workers hope to make more progress on restoring power today, and are getting help from Electric Utility workers with the city of Pella. The ice storm has accounted for at least 25 broken power poles and several miles of downed power lines. Van Wyk says that repair crews were out until after midnight on Wednesday, and then back out all day Thursday.

Pella Cooperative Electric has been overwhelmed with phone calls and is asking residents to be please patient and listen to KNIA/KRLS for updates or visit www.pella-cea.org if internet access is available. Van Wyk adds that those with information on specific damage or downed lines can call (641) 628-1040 or (800) 619-1040 to report the outage.
