A rural Otley woman faces three driving-related charges following a series of events over the weekend that had multiple law enforcement agencies searching for her. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 39-year-old Beth Schut put her car in a ditch on Highway 14 south of Marshalltown early Sunday morning. After calling multiple friends, Schut was taken to a hotel in Marshalltown for the night, unbeknownst to any others. Another concerned friend contacted the Marion County Sheriff’s Office later that morning, which then enlisted the help of the Iowa State Patrol, who had troopers and a search plane looking for Schut. She was later located returning to her vehicle, at which time she was cited for careless driving, failure to maintain control and leaving the scene of an accident.
