The Central men’s basketball team followed Saturday’s overtime win over Wartburg with another exciting finish last night, as a last second three-pointer by Justin Madsen pushed the Dutch past Dubuque University 76-73.

Central led 71-66 with 33 seconds remaining, but a deep three by Dubuque and a lay-up off of a turnover tied the game at 71-71. Both teams then exchanged free throws, leaving Central with the final shot and 8.6 seconds remaining. The set play for the Dutch fell apart, but Madsen was able to corral an errant pass, turn, and bury a 23-foot three-pointer for the win.

Loren Liming led Central with his eighth double-double performance of the season, with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Miguel Ley had a strong evening as well, and moved himself up in the Dutch men’s basketball record books, as he finished with 19 points and 6 assists. Ley passed Central College legend and NFL star Vern Den Herder for fourth place on the all-time scoring list with 1,440 points, while also moving into second place on Central’s career assists list with 291.

The Central men are now 17-4 overall and 10-2 in the Iowa Conference, but face another long road trip Saturday when they travel to Decorah to face Luther.
