Demolition work has begun on the former Pella Christian High School building near Pella Regional Health Center. Since acquiring the property, Pella Regional had looked into multiple possibilities for using the building, but it was determined that renovation was not a practical option and the building’s current condition posed a safety risk.
The area where the former school currently stands will be graded and seeded in order to create a pleasant setting for the neighborhood. Beyond the building, Pella Regional continues to use the parking lot for employee parking and the former concession stand for machinery storage.
Asbestos removal at the former Pella Christian High School began at the beginning of this month and the building will be torn down following that process. Plans are for the building to be completely torn down by early May.
