After two consecutive wins that came down to the final seconds, the Central men’s basketball team let Head Coach Mike Boschee breathe easy at the end of Saturday’s Iowa Conference game in Decorah, as the Dutch dropped Luther 59-43. Central’s defense was stingy throughout the game, but was particularly suffocating in the second half, as they shut down the Norse in the midst of a 23-4 offensive run that put the game out of reach.

The Dutch held Luther to just 32.7 percent shooting from the floor, including 2-of-13 from beyond the arc, while shooting nearly 43 percent from their end of the floor and knocking down five-of-nine three-point attempts. Central also out-rebounded the Norse 39-to-31, and committed just 11 turnovers.

Leading a balanced offensive attack for Central was guard Miguel Ley, who tallied a game-high 14 points, while Mark Holan added 11 and Loren Liming chipped in 10. Jack Bruns also had a strong afternoon off the bench, which included a game-high 8 rebounds.

Central is 18-4 overall and 11-2 in league play with three regular-season games remaining. It’s Central’s highest season wins total since the 1979-80 league champs finished 18-8.
