Improved Second Half Guides Pella Christian Girls to Victory Over Norwalk

The Pella Christian girls basketball team ended their regular season with a strong finish, as the Eagles put away Norwalk 55-34 last night.
Pella Christian led by just one point at halftime, but improved play at both ends of the floor in the second half helped break the game open and the Eagles held all of the advantages for the remainder of the game.

Eagles’ Head Coach Kevin Van Maanen said he thought the team had too many sloppy possessions in the first half and put Norwalk on the free-throw line too often. Those concerns were addressed in the second half, as Pella Christian outscored the Warriors 17-8 in the third quarter, and 14-3 in the fourth quarter.

Jasmin Schelhaas led the Eagles’ offense with 18 points, but the other six players who saw significant minutes all scored between five and nine points to provide a balanced offensive attack. Courtney Van Kooten had a game-high eight rebounds, including five on the offensive end.

The Pella Christian girls ended the season 9-5 in Little Hawkeye Conference play, and are 13-8 overall going into Saturday’s Regional Tournament opener with PCM.
