More than likely an outright Little Hawkeye Conference title is on the line tonight when 12th ranked Knoxville plays host to 14th ranked Pella in girls basketball. The Panthers are coming off their first loss of the season to Norwalk on Tuesday in a game that was their fourth in five days. Coach Jim Utiermarkt says both teams know each other well, so he thinks the game will be low scoring and likely come down to another defensive play someone will have to make. In the first meeting, Knoxville had to make a defensive stop at the end of the game to preserve the win by one point 35-34. Pella hopes to even up the season series with Knoxville tonight and would accomplish a major team goal as well if they can secure a victory. Little Dutch Head Coach Jerod Garland says one of the team’s early season goals was to be Little Hawkeye Conference champions, and with tonight’s meeting with the Panthers serving as a de facto conference title game, the Pella girls appear to be in control of their own destiny. Garland says one thing that the Little Dutch won’t be in control of, though, is the hostile environment they will encounter. The Lady Dutch are 11-1 in the LHC as is Knoxville.
